Vof Vof Vof!!! Tomorrow it starts, the Christmas celebration! I have been out and tried to see if Santa is coming …

Nero with Santa hat

I wear my Santa hat so he can see me from far away! I asked Hanna to help me and look to the other road – we don’t want to miss Santa.

Nero, do I really need to wear this hat? It’s too big and I have just fixed my hair! Okey, I’ll do my best because I want to meet Santa, too …

Hey, Nero, come here … please help me! Something has stucked to my fur … huge snowflakes … I don’t know if I like this  …

Relax Hanna, I’m here! Everything is fine and we are ready for Christmas party … you see what Santa has already sent to us …

Finnish sweets

… and we have doggie goodies, too (I ate half of them, but don’t tell Hanna)! Teje has started her traditional Christmas puzzle …

… one sleeve = one star … someone is loosing his shirts, I hope Santa brings him new shirts …

This will be puppie-friendly quilt. Teje said that she uses only strong fabrics because anyway I’m the one who makes the bed every morning. This beautiful design is from Kaffe Fassett. She tries to follow the pattern this time …

Our dear artist friend has made this quilt and she was so kind that she sent her templates to us. Here is her wonderful quilt with her beautiful, sweet puppy …

We have put Christmas lights and cristalls to the windows …

Now we shall go for the last food shopping and then we can just relax and enjoy this magical time! Look,  there he is! I’m sure I saw Santa …

Nero the Shephard

… oh and my hat had felt down! If he didn’t see me? Hey Santa, I’m here and I have been really good boy all the year!

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments and beautiful Christmas cards! We sent our cards three weeks ago but it seems to be that everything we sent that day, has disappeared in the post. We are so sorry if you haven’t received our Christmas cards.

We wish you the most wonderful Christmas time and all the best, health and happiness for the New Year 2013!!! We hope to see you before the new year! Hugs and Kisses!

Vof vof vof! Hi friends, it’s Nero here! I hope you are fine and I’m sure you are waiting to open your Christmas presents and to eat all the biscuits and goodies that you have been making! Sooner than we believe we can do that! I wrote to Santa to bring me lots of ‘dessert’ sticks and toys! I have been busy with many things ….

beautiful fabrics

New Fabrics arrived and we were waiting these beauties from the autumn! They are from ‘Fluffy Sheep Quilting’! Heaven & Helsinki and Ladies Stitching club – perfect names for fabrics! More about them, when we can show you more. When Teje was finding a place to take pictures, I was busy around …

Could you resist that fresh green?! I guess you desire those fabrics but I enjoyed that fresh, soft grass …

Wow, it was so soft … the ground … and smelled very interesting, the hedgehog is running around every day and I wanted to dig and dig the soft ground and grass to find the smell better! Then I had a feet-bath. I wonder why we don’t have a beige, linen couch even Teje would love that? And there is always a towl on my sofa?

beautiful fabrics

Today Teje had a plan to work all the day and she wanted to start a new baby quilt. In fact she had a plan to start to make a pattern for the ‘Baby Stars’ baby quilt. She had took these fabrics on the table last night but then I said it’s time to go to bed, so she had to leave it today … only today we didn’t have electricity almost all the day! I had to take care of the road because there were men with big cars and they did something with those ‘light-trees’.

This much she did, plus some more cutting, till she believed that the light is not coming and the coffee is not coming. So we changed the plan and now we have bright, clean windows for the Christmas! And clean office and even clean computer!  It was once again lovely sunny day and I was around with Hanna …

Yesterday we had our lunch-coffee outside in the sunshine and Teje was knitting her sock. It was +20 in the shadow! Today almost the same but in the afternoon it was raining a little bit.  blaa …. blaaa …bla … blaaa …. what? you want to hear about my secret?  Oh how shall I tell you our secret? It’s something that Teje has been wondering from the spring. She left the idea till the autumn because summer is always busy time. Then she just didn’t find what she wanted. She started with one, but found out that something really important didn’t work as she liked.

And now few days ago she found it! It’s called Yoko! What’s that, you may ask … it’s our new theme! Yeeeeeee !!! I’m so exited – we are moving! If you are interested to see how it looks, you are so welcome to click HERE HERE HERE!!! I need to warn you that the place is still quite empty and not ready. We (she) have been really busy trying to fix so many things. At least now she knows much more than 2,5 years ago when she were fighting with herself to find out how to start a blog. We don’t move far away, we stay in the same neighbourhood – just need a little more space and a change. Please welcome to visit and tell me your opinion! We continue still here in the same place at least till the end of the year. I let you know when I start to write my posts in my new ‘home’.

Thank you so much for spending time with me and thank you for writing so amazing messages! It is so much fun to chat with you! I do appreciate if you tell honestly what you think about our new home! I really hope you like it!

Ps. I go to wake up Hanna, she is snoring too much!

Ps. I had to come back to add this: when reading and checking my post I realized that I’m writing about moving to a new ‘home’ and after that I show a photo with houses! Honestly it was a coincidence! How that happens to me all the time?

Hi everyone! Hopefully you don’t have stress with your Christmas schedule and preparations! I haven’t done any so I thought I could share my earlier Christmas makings because there is still one week to bake coocies, make decorations, sew something …

Christmas decoration

Last two Christmases I have made many needle felted decorations with dog hairs. When I brush Nero and Hanna, I collect the ‘wool’ from the brush. You can make also yarn from that and my mom used to do that. I makes the most warm yarn! But to these balls now …

needle felted balls

You know my sweet Golden Retriewer friend London. When I have been taken care of her, I kept some wool to make Christmas decoration to her mom. I made something very simple and natural. Few branches from cypress, ribbon cutted from fleece, paper ‘ribbon’  and paper cord … two woollen balls … almost like snow balls …

I add also very thin metal wire for hanging and if you like you can add beads etc. for extra festive look. Next photos show one that I have made with Nero’s wool and the materials you need (needle for needle felting and those very light balls). You can make also hearts, wreaths etc.

Crochet snowflakes are different project – great one – for those you can find good tutorial from Lucy at ‘attic 24’.

Last year I made little, white Christmas tree which became very famous and loved. It is really cute and easy to make. You can read all the post where I show how I made it HERE.

small white Christmas tree

This year I have been sewing a lot, but not Christmassy things. Last year I made lots of mini-mini quilts, mug rugs, Christmas mats and tutorial how to make them.

Christmas mug rugs

One small decoration I made suddenly and with a moment’s inspiration, was this felted cover for candle glass. HERE you can see how easy it is to make.

And then lets start to bake … oh I can smell Christmas … my ‘must’ bakings are Ginger Coocies and Christmas Stars. I do hope I shall make them also this Christmas!

ginger coocies

Here you can see the recipe for Christmas coocies and here how to make Christmas Stars.

Christmas baking

Oh how I wish I had now those stars with my afternoon coffee! I have bought all the things I need to make them, so perhaps I shall have tomorrow baking day instead of cleaning!

Every Friday I’m happy to join linky parties at ‘Natural Suburbia’ with Linda , ‘Felicity Quilts’ with Felicity and at ‘Wisdom begins with wonder’ with Andrea! Thank you ladies for hosting lovely parties!

my sweet puppy

When I was looking for these Christmas photos I ran to one with Hanna. I just have show you her sweet face and with this Hanna’s relaxing moment, I wish you wonderful week and do try to relax even I know you are very busy! Thank you so much for visiting my little blog and for leaving always so appreciated and enjoyable comments! See you soon!

Sweet little book with boots – needle book!

And there are the tickets, too! This fabric is Punctuation by ‘American Jane Patterns’ Sandy Klop for modafabrics.com and it’s sooooo goood! This lovely fabric has 4 different green prints in same & blue and orange tickets and boots on the selvage!

Because I finally managed to make this needle book, it was easy to continue with some other special fabrics. What about Moomins? Do you love them?

needle book

Here you are ‘Moomin’ pink and sweet needle book. It insisted to become so cute and girlish – I hope I’m not the only one who loves girlish things!

Pink ‘Moomin’ needle book is in MY ETSY SHOP and I have just finished second Moomin needle book with green fabrics. Our friend Mia from ‘Handmade by Mia’ asked what we wish to get from Santa. I said boots and ment real, great boots! So I guess my little boots are on their way to my shop, too.

Butterfly! These crochet butterflies has really got so much attention! I made the red polka-dot zipper pouch and this green was on it’s way. Now finished and in my shop. A while ago I received wonderful e-mail from a sweet lady who asked if I could make some butterflies to her – I was so happy that she didn’t hesitate to ask when she got a lovely idea to use these butterflies on a craft she was making! I haven’t forgot that many of you would like to get pattern for this butterfly. I hope I have time to do it in winter. The pattern is not mine so it’s a little bit difficult issue. I have tried to contact the blogger where I found it, but I think she has stopped her blog.

If you remember I made one fabric basket with written fabric with lovely red checked fabric. Now I have made the smaller one and it’s also in my shop.

Did I say any other word with B? Yes, B.B.Q … here your go, fishes from grill two days ago and yesterday we had B.B.Q. with pork chops and ate outside wearing t-shirts! First of December, isn’t that great! Today has still been very warm but too strong wind to sit outside. And you know what they say for the next weekend? Only +7 for us and for more north under zero!

As you can guess, I have seen again lots of fantastic ideas and sewings! Here are few links to give you inspiration:

‘Rainbow Hare Quilts’Janine has made a beautiful quilt ‘I saw A Fish’!

My garden doesn’t has lots of flowers but now there are beautiful rosies! But for an other B as Beautiful I wanted to show you my beautiful Nero. You see where he enjoys himself?!

Laura’s blog hop with English paper piecing has reached the end and the linky party. ‘Travellin Pic Stitch’ was my first ever blog hop and also I tried first time English paper piecing. Both so much fun – mostly the blog hop! I hope Laura has soon again new great idea as this was and invites me, too! When I crapped the plate with feta and centered it on my block, I didn’t realize that it could be fun; I saw only the colours. I had a good laugh with Laura’s funny words for my feta cheese block!

Time to go … I wonder what you are doing in the beginning of the December? I have made some cards to write and some sewing ideas are waiting in my thoughts, fabrics on my table … and some special fabrics are on their way to me! Can’t wait to show them! Thank you for visiting and for your sweet comments! I hope I inspired many of you to knit and to start to knit! Hugs to all of you from all of us here!

Hello and welcome to knit ‘Cloudy Cowl’ with me! The cowl is finished and we had once again lovely day to take photos in the garden with Nero and Hanna.  Nero, you may start our tutorial …

I have used for this cowl yarn which is very light and fluffy and with this pattern it makes wonderful cowl.  I used needles size 8 (English 0) to get very loose knitting. Normally for this yarn I would have used 5 or 6 size needles. Yarn is from my ‘old store’ so unfortunately I can’t say exactly what yarn it is but you can use any yarn you like. Choose the needle size and number of loops by your yarn.

I show you how I have knitted this cowl-cape and you can very easily change the size and use any kind of yarn, as you prefer. Please, Hanna show us how this cowl can be weared …

This cape is very comfortable! There is no front or back side, use it as you like! Also you can gather it more around your neck or your can leave to cover more your shoulders. The knitting pattern I have used, is very elastic so you can give it a shape as you like.

The piece I have knitted is 14″ x 37″ = 35 x 95 cm. I have used two colours but you can choose any colours or just one as you like.  I made first 51 loops and then knitted by the following pattern.

The number of loops can be as many as you like, but if you like to have the same beginning on both sides, the number of loops should be divisible by 4 + 1.

I made a small test piece for you so you can see the pattern well. For this piece I made 23 loops. That means {5 x 4} + 1 which you need to finish the row, and 1 + 1 for the edge loops. I make always in the beginning and at the end of every row 1 knit.

knitting pattern

1. row: 1 knit, *3 knit, 1 purl*. Repeat from * to * till the end of the row and 2 knit.

2. row: 1 knit, *3 knit, 1 purl*. Repeat from * to * till the end of the row and 2 knit.

Just repeat these two rows till your piece is about 37 ” = 95 cm, or as long as you like. If you make your piece longer the neckline is going to be bigger and if you make it shorter it makes the neckline smaller.

This pattern is my favourite! It’s simple and quick to knit and depending of the yarn we use, the texture can change very much.

When you have knitted your piece, sew the other end on the side as you can see in the following photo …

Here you can see again where the seam is …

I’m sure this is going to be my favourite cowl for this winter and I’m already thinking what other yarn to use to make an other one! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and find it easy and helpful! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask – I am more than happy to help you!

Thank you for visiting us and joining our knitting moment! I would love to hear what you are knitting or if you knit a cowl!

Hello hello hello!!! Welcome to windy Friday on Nero’s Post and Patch! I’m happy you came because I just have to show you something I made yesterday and to tell you exiting news!

Yesterday I sold some crafts … got some new custom orders … didn’t have time to sew … and in the evening I just had to try if this idea can work. I think it works! It’s always nice to hear how people find their ideas … mine came from here: Emma’s cute jewellery at ‘Silverpebble’!

This is a double pinwheel made with knitting decorated with a little tussel and I love it … them, of course it can’t be just one alone … look also what Nelli has done to My wine barrel cover!

Hi! I just wanted to mention that we have had very much conversation about the word GAB! In fact it’s me who talks a lot. Nero is good in writing to his blog but I do the talking. Ask anyone who knows me. I sing, too, but only in the shower (where I like to sleep, it’s my own, safe-corner)! Happy weekend from me too and kiss kiss kiss!

Vof vof vof – it’s me Nero here! How great to see you – I have many things to show to you and also some great links at the end! Want translation? Vof is my language and means Hi! Wips = works in process and Wifs = works in finish – now you know some doggie language! In the morning it looked like this on our sewing table …

Sorry, but is someone messing up with my post? This photo just didn’t want to come here and now it doesn’t want to turn?

I don’t really sew, I just tell and show. Teje did some preparings in the morning and then there was SUN so out we ran to take photos. I have been waiting so many days to show you our new fabric baskets! Voila …

beautiful sephard

You can’t see them well? I thought you would love to see my beautiful face first. Okey, here you are, a closer shoot …

You see we were quick enough to catch Hanna in the photo. She is so good avoiding portret photos. Those fabrics with letters are so great for this kind of projects. They are not too hard but still more firm than normal cotton. Exterior has fleece and thin cotton and then there is also lining with that great red ‘kitchen’ fabric! We didn’t quilt those outside pieces but we shall try that, too. It will make them even more steady.

fabric baskets

Our knitting project is going so and so. Three pieces (two sleeves and one front) are 3/4 ready. But I’m (she is) so lazy to start to think how to make the curves on the sleeves and other pieces, so she just starts the next piece … and at the end she has all the pieces at the unpleasant stage. Very soon she needs this jacket so hurry hurry!

fabric baskets

This blogging is really so much fun and teach us so much! I don’t speak many laguages – only ‘doggie’, some ‘finnish’ and a little bit better ‘greek’ – usually I let them believe that it’s all greek to me. But anyway Teje learnt one new word last week: gab! You see I have that! She was writing the post title big bag but she is typing so many mistakes and wrote gab. Then she thought (she likes words and letters) that it looks funny word play and left the name: BIG GAB BAG. It is that green/white/black tote bag. She didn’t think even a moment that there exists a word gab. Then she saw that you used it also in your comments and she took her green, magic book filled with words and there it was! Lucky her that it didn’t mean anything terrible! Great word and I’m sure she never forgets that. To our Finnish readers I like to tell that the book says it means ‘lorpotys, puhelahja’ (please add in your mind those sopts over o). I hope the book has it right!

my puppies

… here I am just gabbing! I wonder can I say like that? But I have an other question to you. Have you seen quilt card? If not, it looks something like this …

Christmas card

I have to confess that this is also a little bit wip because we put that tussel quickly with a safety-pin just for the photo. Now I/she needs to sew it there. This was idea of a moment when she saw those wonky triangles and they looked like a tree.

Christmas cards

Beautiful Christmas basket! This basket is funny because it’s full of grass. One day Teje thought to pick this ‘antique’ basket from the ground and what she saw – lots of cute greens growing through the bottom …

Hanna is always some where near! I think quilt cards are wonderful way to send Christmas greetings to your friends! If you like to make some but you are not sure how, look our tutorial for mini quilt – coasters.

Hmmm, what else … aaa jes I said about links … I have seen again so many fantastic things to make and sew and some great tutorials! Have a look here:

* Pocket wall organizer made by ‘Sew Lux’ – this is beautiful and practical way to keep your Christmas cards, notes etc!

* Box bag made by ‘Truly Myrtle’ – this is great bag to keep your projects, make-ups etc. You can use fabric or piece of your old favourite pullover!

* Wonky pinwheel block made by ‘Green Leaf Goods’ – this is beautiful and fun patchwork block and I’m sure I shall make many of these!

I’m sure you enjoy all these great tutorials and beautiful blogs!

Something she has managed to do today. I go to have a nap with my girls and send Teje to her corner to continue … who knows what these are supposed to become (?).

We are linking with Lee at ‘W.i.p. Wednesday’!

We all from ‘My Post’ = Nero’s Post, send you armfull of hugs and thank you so much for joining our EPP adventure! Do you read Laura’s blog ‘Quokka Quilts’? Laura is hosting the EPP Travellin blog hop and we were so happy to join that! If not, you could stop by! She’s is so sweet and fun, too! She gave us a good laugh with our Greek feta cheese! Have fun and take care!
