Hello my Dear Friends! This Sunday is sunny and beautiful with a light fresh wind!
Yesterday I was thinking to write but because Internet didn’t like to work I started to make my ‘Rainbow Jacket’!
Here is the first beginning how I started to knit last evening. This yarn is ‘7 Veljesta’ from Novita. =’7 Brothers’! I use round needle (as always) with number 4.
I knit usually quite loose, so I’ll show you how I keep the yarn to be more tight …
If you knit very tight, it’s better to pass the yarn only through your first finger and then pass inside your hand …
Also you can use a little bit bigger needles. Remind your self to stay relaxed and not to hold too tight your knitting. It’s also very good to learn to knit in relaxing position, because then you can knit hours and never get tired or have problems with your shoulders and hands. I knit always sitting on a sofa or an armchair, never on the table – this is only to take the photos.
You may think why I have two balls of yarn?! This yarn makes stripes and because the jacket has bigger pieces and I don’t want very thin stripes, I was wondering how I could change that. So I use two yarns and change them in the middle and I get more fat stripes!
When you like to change the colour (yarn) you do it on your back side. I want my front side to be ‘the wrong one’ – that’s why I change the yarn like this! You need to cross those two yarns to avoid a hole!
What ever pictures, figures, squares etc. you like to knit, you can do it like this! I was counting how long time I have been knitting … perhaps I shouldn’t say but I say … more than 35 years! Perhaps even more than 40 because I was very young when I began with my mother. I have made my first pullower when I was 5 years old. I made it by crocheting and surely my mother helpped very much – but still! I think my knitting ‘career’ began when I was about 15 so it is about 35 years ago. Through my fingers has passed many kind of yarns – there has became lots of pullovers with many kind of pictures, patterns, technics and colours. Knitting has been always my passion!
When I knit with several yarns, I like to keep the yarn balls in order. That means when I cross two yarns I change the balls also. Otherwise soon I end up with a terrible mess and need too long time to put the yarns in order again.
New beginning! I changed my plan in the morning and made a new start without orange. With this jacket I make in the beginning several rows like this: 2 right, 2 wrong and a change after two rows. Sorry about my words, my vocabulary is not very good with English knitting words. We call this knitting ‘Basket bottom’. You can make as big squares as you like and it’s very easy to make and looks beautiful. Also it doesn’t roll at all, so it’s perfect also for edges and borders!
I knit the first and the last loop always ‘right’. What ever pattern or technic I use, I do this because it makes the edge straight. Otherwise the first and the last loop is easily more loose than the others.
Here you see why I like to have the ‘backside’ my front side! I love how the colours mix on this side!
I am all the time behind in my posts! I got this beautiful yarn from my friend who was visiting me some weeks ago.
I think I need to go to continue knitting … it’s so enjoyable with that wonderful yarn that I just can’t stop!
