PINK BIRDS AND WONKY FLOWER

Hello! Καλη εβδομαδα για ολους! Good week for every one! I hope you had a great weekend! I am thinking what I did all the weekend … I thought I would finish the pink quilt with birds, but I guess I did something else …
I had to try how this idea could work! I began with the scraps and my sewing assistant …
Nelli was sitting and watching out when I started to puzzle the pieces …
… still when I had sewn and pressed all the pieces, she was sitting in the same position! You can see tha it’s getting darker outside. This wonky piece was made quite quickly. I didn’t count or cut same sizes – just puzzled and cut with scissors those long triangles. I didn’t even take care of the center because it will be covered anyway. Also it’s not going to be too thick because I didn’t end all the triangles in the same spot in the middle.
I’m sure that most of you have seen lots of mini quilts around in blogland. And lately even more because there is going on ‘Mini Quilt Challenge’. Jennifer from ‘Ellison Lane Quilts’ is hosting that exiting mini quilt challenge-competition! You find the button in my sidelist – visit to see all the details and the list for the bloggers who are making mini quilts and tutorials to give us ideas and inspiration!
My inspiration for this wonky-flower-colour-circle came from several things. I saw one beautiful fabric of Marimekko which is like water coloured orange flowers! I have Marimekko’s button in my sidelist, if you like to see their spring fabrics.
Also big part of this idea came from so many beautiful colour circles I have seen lately in different blogs! One really good is made by Jennifer!
Something has happened also over the pink birds … I have start to hand quilt it. It really makes the difference! I have always loved quilted and stitched things … bags, shoes, jackets etc.
Still need to stitch long lines from up till down and I guess those birds would like to have legs.
One blog where I like to lead you to get inspiration and real challenge is ‘mamacjt’! Carol creates amazing quilts, fabric pictures and textile art! One of her latest works is ‘Downtown’ and today she showed us ‘Flower forest’! Just amazing – go to enjoy!
And more inspiration from Leanne at ‘She can Quilt’! She made just amazing mini quilt and she shows to us also how she made it! I love also Leanne’s fantastic quilt with giant cabin log!
And one more … Kati at ‘From the Blue Chair’! Kati is also so talented with her beautiful quilts and she is special with colours! Rainbow colours, rainbow quilts and much more!
Today sun was really teasing me! When I was inside, it was shining but when I took my camera and the quilt and went out, it was hiding in the clouds. Finally I got this one shot with sun light!
An other blog where I like you to go today, is Kerry’s ‘VeryKerryBerry‘! Do you love Pippi longstrump?! I do – I had all her books! If you like paper piecing, even better! Kerry has made Pippi with her red hair by paper piecing! I have to admit that I haven’t tried yet paper piecing. I have been lazy to start to try something new what needs lots of concentration. But I think it could be so much fun that it’s worth of trying.

Last but not least I want to tell you about Leona’s wonderful give away at ‘Leona’s Quilting Adventure’! She is sharing a lovely book with beautiful fabrics!
Soooo – I guess that’s for today. My sweet darling Nero had pink dreams in the morning. When I went to fix the bed, I found him sleeping on the pillow … I put the blanket on him and he continued sleeping more than half an hour!

Well it’s obvious that in your home you are doing all the work and your lovely pets are enjoying their lazy days! The idea for the wonky flower is great. Why paper piece if you can get results like this?

Oh so many links, thank you. I’m especially looking forward to pippi longstocking, she was my favourite as a child, I still have the books. Did you knw Steig Larssen’s character Lisbet Salander is based on Pippi as an adult?

I used to have a Pippi Longstocking, but I’ve no idea what happened to it. Love you mini quilt, you almost peruade me to join in! And those birdie look super now that you have hand quilted them. I’ve only just started hand quilting and think it looks super.

oh teje, i love LOVE the hand quilting around the birds, what is that small thread spool? is it special quilting thread? embroiderery thread? i have to just start something, i feel it so much each time i come to visit you. i want to sew!

Thank you Lori! I’m happy if I have given to you inspiration! These threads are DMC coton perle n:o 8. They are for embroiderery but also very common in hand quilting. You will see them in many quilting blogs. They have so beautiful shine (not too much) and lots of colours. I’m sure you can find them from your locan shop because I can.
